Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez appears to have burned his last bridge out of Boston.

It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein will unload the team’s disgruntled star before today’s trade deadline. The last straw appears to be an interview Ramirez gave to In that interview, Manny made the EXACT point that I did on Sunday-that the Boston Red Sox regularly villify star players once they make too much money and routinely run them out of town.

Ramirez mentioned Pedro Martinez and Nomar Garciaparra specifically. The same things has happened from the ’70s with legends like Carlton Fisk, through the ’80s with guys like Fred Lynn, and into the ’90s when Boston fans were convinced to give up on a “washed up” Roger Clemens. Clemens went on to win mulitple Cy Young Awards in Toronto and a World Series ring with the hated New York Yankees. It even happened in the 2000’s to World Series heroes like Johnny Damon and, as Ramirez points out, Pedro Martinez. Apparently it’s still going on today.

At least Boston fans are consistent. they fall for this crap from ownership EVERY time.

However, Ramirez probably crossed the line when he said star players were “mistreated” by the Red Sox and things have gotten so bad “they don’t deserve me.”
