BABY BEATING BILLS RECEIVER JAMES HARDY has the story that James Hardy, a second-round pick in last month’s NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills, allegedly pulled a gun on his father. On Mother’s Day.

That makes three generations of friends and family members that Hardy has been involved in domestic altercations with.

According to Profootball Talk,

Hardy spent three nights in jail after allegedly committing battery against his girlfriend.  He was charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime.  Hardy eventually was released on bond.

When his girlfriend called 911, an operator heard the woman say that Hardy had “hit her and her baby.”  The line then disconnected, apparently because Hardy had yanked the phone out of the wall.

A source told the website that Hardy is a “scary dude” and dropped in the NFL Draft after the reports came out about him striking a baby.

People who watched Day 2 coverage of the NFL draft may have noticed the blurb about Northwestern State offensive tackle, Demitrius Bell, being drafted in the seventh round by the Buffalo Bills. Bell is the bastard son of NBA legend Karl Malone. If you watched the draft coverage it really came across that the relationship between Bell and Malone could be called “frosty” at best. The two apparently didn’t meet until Bell was 18. At that time Malone told his son,  “it was too late to be his father, and that Bell would have to ‘earn his money on his own.'”

Some of the details about the relationship between Bell’s mother and Malone were revealed this weekend in the Buffalo News:

Gloria Bell, reportedly was only 13 years old and Malone a college sophomore at Louisiana Tech when Demetrius was born. Malone might have served jail time had her family asked the district attorney to file criminal charges.

The great sports website did the math and it’s not pretty for The Mailman:

Hold on, hold on, I’m using my calculator.  13 years, minus nine months of pregnancy, carry the one… Wow.  If Wilson’s claim is correct, then there’s a 75% chance that Karl Malone slept with a 12-year-old when he was in college.  And a 100% chance he’s a child molester.  Dude, even in Louisiana, 13-year-old girls are still just kids.  They don’t blossom into sex objects until at least 14.

Malone (known as a conservative, “family values” guy in Utah) has at least two other children born out of wedlock. He is also the father of WNBA star Cheryl Ford.

With the NFL Draft steaming along in full gear, there’s a story out today about how the various quarterback prospects scored on their Wonderlic tests. The Wonderlic is the “intelligence” test the National Football League administers to all incoming rookies. A guy named Mac Mirabile compiles the scores every year. He has a list of the Wonderlic scores of all the college quarterback prospects for the last 10 years.

Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm led this year’s crop of quarterbacks with a Wonderlic score of 32, Dennis Dixon of Oregon was second with a 29. Boston College QB Matt Ryan (the third pick in the draft) had a 28.

John David Booty parlayed his USC education into a tie for the worst Wonderlic score for a quarterback this year-14.

Former Nebraska and Arizona State quarterback, Sam Keller, finished in the top 10 in Wonderlic scores.

We already knew Keller was smart based on pictures of his INCREDIBLY HOT GIRLFRIEND:

Busted Coverage was the first site with pictures of Keller’s girlfriend. Now, she’s all over the internet.

Obviously, scouting is an inexact science and the Wonderlic is just a part of how the NFL measures prospects. Having a high Wonderlic score means nothing for incoming quarterbacks. Hall-of-Famers Terry Bradshaw and Dan Marino both had ridiculously low Wonderlic scores and BEING STUPID certainly hasn’t slowed either one of them down. Even in their POST NFL careers.

Meanwhile, Sam Keller may not even get drafted. Besides, it’s not like Booty is hurting in the chick department.

Even though Booty’s a moron, chicks still dig him!

April 13, 2008 has raised the issue of steroids in the death of possible NFL draft pick Heath Benedict.

The site says Benedict, “whose sudden death last month prompted some league insiders to wonder whether steroid use might have played a role in his demise, died due to a heart condition.”

True says the site. But did supplements or any other substances play a role in that heart condition.

Heath Benedict was rated as one of the sleepers of the 2008 NFL draft. He attended tiny Newberry College. Benedict had struggled with injury issues and lost 20 pounds before the Senior Bowl. The injury and weight issues have helped lead to speculation of Benedict’s possible steroid use.

Record-setting Hawaii quarterback, Colt Brennan, had already seen his stock plunge in the upcoming NFL draft. Now, details of a criminal incident while he attended Colorado may have dropped him even further down most teams draft charts.

Veteran NFL writer, Jerry Magee, of the San Diego Union Tribune summarized the arrest records of several NFL prospects. Here’s what he wrote about Brennan:

QB Colt Brennan, Hawaii – In February 2004, then attending Colorado, he was arrested on felony burglary and trespassing charges and misdemeanor sexual assault and indecent exposure charges after allegedly walking uninvited into a female student’s dorm room and sexually assaulting her. Brennan pleaded not guilty but was convicted on both counts and sentenced to seven days in jail, 60 hours of community service and four years’ probation. He was dismissed by Colorado.
