Former New York Times movie critic Elvis Mitchell was recently detained at the U.S./Canadian border. Authorities confiscated $12,000 in cash from the writer. Today’s New York Post says the government wants an explanation as to why Mitchell was carrying that much cash or THEY’RE GOING TO KEEP IT.

Mitchell left the Times in 2004. The critic has also worked for PBS, NPR, Turner Classic Movies and written freelance pieces for various publications. Mitchell is also a guest professor at Harvard.

I wonder how many WHITE Harvard professors WITHOUT dreadlocks would have all their money confiscated by U.S. custom authorities.

Today’s online edition of the New York Times features a piece by the paper’s editorial board entitled “John McCain, Barack Obama and the Race Card.”

Through a bit of convoluted reasoning, the article makes the claim that the McCain ad that compared Obama to celebrities Paris Hilton and Britney Spears was, in fact, racist. The editorial board goes on to say that when the McCain camp accuses Obama of dealing the race card “from the bottom of the deck” it is a direct attempt to tie the Democrat to celebrity wife murderer O.J. Simpson.

According to the Times, dreamteam lawyers Johnny Cochran and Robert Shapiro invented the term “dealing the race card from the bottom of the deck” during the O.J. Simpson murder trial.

The taglines at the Fox News Channel are phrases like “we report, you decide” and “fair and balanced.”

Now the network has been busted altering photos for use on one of its NEWS shows.

On the July 2nd edition of Fox & Friends, co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade accused New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and his editor Steven Reddicliffe of being “attack dogs” and running a “hit piece” on Fox News Channel. Doocy and Kilmeade were critical of a story Steinberg wrote regarding the station’s ratings. During the segment Fox News ran pictures of both Steinberg and Reddicliffe. Those pictures were altered by Fox.

Don’t believe me? See for yourself. Here’s the picture Fox News ran of Steinberg next to the actual photograph of the reporter.

Notice how Fox News deliberately yellowed Steinberg’s teeth and blackened his eyes. They also made his nose and ears bigger.

Here’s the before and after pictures of Steinberg’s editor, Steven Reddicliffe.

In Reddicliffe’s case Fox again put dark circles under his eyes and blackened them (severely.) The network also yellowed his teeth and moved his hairline back.

Besides being incredibly juvenile, this is one of the most outrageous cases of outright deception in the history of “journalism.” Somebody at Fox needs to get fired over this. If Doocy or Kilmeade had any knowledge of this debacle THEY need to go. Or at least be suspended. When a news organization alters reality it affects the credibility of an entire network (just ask the people at Dateline NBC.)

All from the people who brought you “fair and balanced.”
