RED SOX GM THEO EPSTEIN

Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez appears to have burned his last bridge out of Boston.

It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein will unload the team’s disgruntled star before today’s trade deadline. The last straw appears to be an interview Ramirez gave to ESPNdeportes.com. In that interview, Manny made the EXACT point that I did on Sunday-that the Boston Red Sox regularly villify star players once they make too much money and routinely run them out of town.

Ramirez mentioned Pedro Martinez and Nomar Garciaparra specifically. The same things has happened from the ’70s with legends like Carlton Fisk, through the ’80s with guys like Fred Lynn, and into the ’90s when Boston fans were convinced to give up on a “washed up” Roger Clemens. Clemens went on to win mulitple Cy Young Awards in Toronto and a World Series ring with the hated New York Yankees. It even happened in the 2000’s to World Series heroes like Johnny Damon and, as Ramirez points out, Pedro Martinez. Apparently it’s still going on today.

At least Boston fans are consistent. they fall for this crap from ownership EVERY time.

However, Ramirez probably crossed the line when he said star players were “mistreated” by the Red Sox and things have gotten so bad “they don’t deserve me.”

EVIL BOSTON SPORTS MEDIA TAKES ONE MORE SHOT AT RUNNING MANNY OUT OF TOWN

July 27, 2008

MANNY RAMIREZ ON THE MOVE?

There they go again.

You would think by now the elitist Boston sports media would have learned their lesson. They haven’t.

The seemingly annual crusade to run Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez out of town has begun anew. In today’s Boston Globe, columnist Dan Shaughnessy AGAIN villifies the guy who is chiefly responsible for the Red Sox ending their six generation World Series drought.

Shaughnessy rips Ramirez for missing ONE game against the Yankees because of a sore knee. Ramirez even had an MRI on the knee but that wasn’t good enough for Shaughnessy who called Ramirez “worthless” and “ridiculous.”

Shaughnessy titled his annual Manny-bash “Now He’s a Guaranteed Out.” In the column, he writes, “Manny has punched his ticket out of town” and “The Red Sox have had it with Manny.” Shaughnessy even threw in the phrase, “it’s over.” Since he’s Irish he added, “Goodnight, Irene.” Since he’s a closet racist Shaughnessy threw in, “Adios, amigo.”

What’s Shaughnessy’s source for proving Manny Ramirez is a quitter? He quotes a former state treasurer who “happened” to be walking by and “spoke for many fans.” Naturally, the guy was white and Irish.

Shaugnessy’s column continues a fine tradition of Boston sportswriting which demonizes athletes for making too much money and demands they be run out of town. Like Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez, Mo Vaughn, and Johnny Damon before him, Manny Ramirez appears to be a goner. As a matter of sheer coincidence, all of those players (except Clemens) JUST HAPPEN to be ethnic minorities. Just like the politician Shaughnessy quotes JUST HAPPENED to be walking by.

If Boston fans are truly worried about overpaid sports figures who are stealing money at their current job and should be run out of town I suggest they start with Dan Shaughnessy.

YANKEE FANS THREATEN TO KILL PAPELBON’S PREGNANT WIFE

July 16, 2008

JONATHAN AND ASHLEY PAPELBON

Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon says New York Yankee fans threatened his pregnant wife at an All Star parade on Tuesday. Yankee fans were reacting to a story in The New York Daily News entitled “Papelbum!”

The story claimed the Red Sox reliever insisted on closing Tuesday’s All Star game even though the game was in New York and legendary Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was on the A.L. roster. Papelbon says he feels like the victim of tabloid journalism

Papelbon was so upset he used more than a dozen profanities in his four minute All Star media availability Tuesday. He also says he didn’t care if he pitched in Tuesday’s game (he did.) Papelbon was “incensed” that his pregnant wife was the victim of insults and threats,

“I feel like I needed to be in a bullet-proof car. My wife is pregnant and she’s getting her life threatened. It’s stupid.”

MANNY RAMIREZ

This wasn’t Manny being Manny. This was Manny assaulting an old man.

Yesterday Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez shoved the team’s traveling secretary, Jack McCormick,  to the ground after a dispute about tickets. That type of behavior will get you released if you’re Shawn Chacon. If you’re a future Hall-of-Famer NOTHING happens.

OH WELL, JUST MANNY BEING MANNY

Ramirez apologized to McCormick and the Red Sox say the case is closed.

As Red Sox manager Terry Francona says, “Things happen.”

UNLIKE SHAWN CHACON, MANNY DOESN’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PACKING HIS BAGS

RED SOX OUTFIELDER COCO CRISP BATTLES TAMPA BAY

Yesterday the Boston Red Sox managed to fight with the Tampa Bay Rays AND each other. First there was a bench-clearing brawl led by Boston outfielder Coco Crisp. Later Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez managed to get into it with his teammate Kevin Youkilis in the same game Thursday.

MLB.com has video of the Ramirez/Youkilis confrontation in the Red Sox dugout.  CLICK HERE to view the incident.

CANCER SURVIVOR TWIRLS NO-HITTER

May 20, 2008

JOHN LESTER

Not that we’re big on heartwarming stories, but…

Cool story out of baseball tonight. Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester threw a no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals.

Just a year ago Lester was sidelined with lymphoma.

One other interesting note from the game-Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek has now caught a record four no-hitters.

MONSTER RIP OFF

April 9, 2008

It should come as no surprise that Boston Red Sox tickets are being scalped for fairly outrageous prices this year.  After all, with the team coming of a World Championship, demand for their tickets is high.Tickets on top of the Green Monster are going for as much as three times their face value.

What’s unique and shocking is that it’s the Red Sox themselves who are scalping the tickets. The Boston Herald describes the latest money grab by a Major League team. The Red Sox NEVER made the tickets (face value $ 160 per ticket) available to the public. Instead they posted the tickets directly on sites like stubhub.

For Friday’s game alone alone, the Sox pulled in more than $30,000 for nearly 100 Green Monster tickets for the April 8 and 9 Fenway openers against the Detroit Tigers and the April 11, 12 and 13 games against the Yankees.

The highest winning bid was $3,116 for six front-row seats at the April 12 game against the Yankees – more than three times what six tickets would cost at the regular price of $160 per seat.

The Red Sox ADMIT they are planning on auctioning off some 5,000 tickets this year.

And, GET THIS: The lying bastards say they’re doing the money grab/auction out of a sense of “civic responsibility,”

“We feel it’s our civic responsibility to keep tickets affordable for fans,” said Ron Bumgarner, vice president of ticketing, “and at the end of the day, this helps keep other ticket prices down.”

Isn’t it bad enough that they’re thieving SCUM? Now they’re LYING, THIEVING scum!
