Norm! of the Las Vegas Review Journal has details about how Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce spent his Saturday night. Pierce’s evening included hanging with Playboy bunnies, a $700 bottle of cabernet and some “girlfriend drama” involving thrown shrimp.

Pierce was pulled over by Las Vegas Metro police early Sunday morning. He was released after passing a field sobriety test.

PAUL PIERCE

The Las Vegas Review Journal is reporting that Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics was handcuffed and briefly detained by Metro police over the weekend.

The NBA’s self-described best player was held for about an hour but released after passing a field sobriety test. Police pulled Pierce over after he was driving erratically early Sunday morning near Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard off the Las Vegas strip. He was handcuffed after allegedly acting “agitated” and being “loudly hostile.”

A BAD DAY FOR JEMELE HILL

June 18, 2008

JEMELE HILL

It hasn’t been a very good 24 hours for ESPN columnist Jemele Hill. Not only have the Boston Celtics (whom she apparently despises) won an NBA championship, but now she’s been suspended for comments she wrote about the team.

ESPN has suspended Hill for comparing the Celtics to Hitler in a column she wrote online for espn.com.

“Rooting for the Celtics is like saying Hitler was a victim. It’s like hoping Gorbachev would get to the blinking red button before Reagan.”

An ESPN spokesman says,

“Jemele has been relieved of her writing and on-air responsibilities for a period of time to reflect on the impact of her words.”

Hill herself also issued an apology,

“In expressing my passion for the NBA and my hometown of Detroit I showed very poor judgment in the words I used.”

That’s not good enough for several Boston radio show hosts who are demanding that she be fired. They claim Hill is a hypocrite and point out that she was one of the loudest voices demanding that radio host Don Imus be fired after his offensive remarks last April.

In an 2007 article, following Imus’ “nappy-headed hos” comment, Hill wrote,

“He is routinely offensive…and if he needs to lose his job to understand that there is no place for that, so be it.”

LAKERS/CELTICS BACK IN THE DAY

The NBA Finals tip off tonight. In what should be the highest rated, most anticipated basketball series in a decade (if not two) the Boston Celtics are hosting the Los Angeles Lakers.

Boston sports fans have been on quite a run with the success of the Red Sox and the Patriots. Still, the CELTICS hold a special place in the hearts of Boston sports fans. And, with the series opening in Beantown, they’re more than ready for the Lakers.

Boston sports fans are already distributing cutouts of Kobe Bryant’s alleged mistress to taunt the Lakers superstar during the game:

DID PAUL PIERCE FLASH A GANG SIGN?

May 1, 2008

The NBA today fined Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce $25,000 for making a “menacing gesture” towards Atlanta’s Al Horford in game 3 of their Eastern Conference playoff series. Pierce was caught on tape (above)flashing a hand gesture towards Horford. He held up his right hand, forming an “O” with his thumb and index finger and extending the other three fingers. Pierce denies the sign was gang related,

“I 100 percent do not in any way promote gang violence or anything close to it. I am sorry if it was misinterpreted that way at Saturday’s game.”

There are at least four interpretations of Pierce’s hand gesture:

1) The gesture was a gang sign used by the Piru Blood gang based in Pierce’s hometown of Inglewood, Calif.

2) It’s a “B” hand symbol used by Boston teens to represent the Hub.

3) In ASL (American Sign Language) the gesture Pierce gave literally means “asshole.”

4) Celtics GM, Danny Ainge says it means “blood, sweat, tears.”

Several religious figures and people who work with gangs and troubled youth in the Boston area came out today and are FURIOUS with Pierce. The Rev. Shaun Harrison of Youth in Crisis Ministries says he’s not buying the club’s explanation of the hand gesture. He said said the signal was “clearly meant to intimidate” Horford – an act that sends a dangerous message to Boston youths.

“Young people are going to take it as, ‘If Paul Pierce can throw up a gang sign, then I can too,’ ” said Harrison. “That’s how you deal with conflict – throw up a gang sign and challenge him. It makes our work even harder now.”

Another Boston religious figure, Nation of Islam Minister Don Muhammad, brought up an even more disturbing aspect of the incident. He says the hand signal takes on a particularly nasty air since there were rumblings that Pierce’s stabbing in 2000 may have been gang-related. Pierce was stabbed 11 times in a nightclub by associates of Boston rap crew Made Men
