From Jay Glazer of Foxsports:
How awesome is this? The Green Bay Packers have screwed up the Brett Favre situation so badly that they’re seeking professional help to get them out of their PR mess.
The Packers have actually hired former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer as a “consultant.” Fleischer currently runs Ari Fleischer Sports Communications, a sports public relations firm. The company’s own website says it can “can help you handle the bad news and take advantage of the good.”
Great. I’m sure it will be a piece of cake to spin why an NFL team would want to get rid of the winningest quarterback in history, the same qb who led the Packers to their last Super Bowl victory. Go get ’em Ari! Whether it’s defending George Bush’s presidency or the Packers trying to force Brett Favre into retirement, it’s good to know some people will do ANYTHING for money.

Favre meanwhile is due to report to Packers camp today to take a physical. Publicly the team says the veteran Hall-of-Famer will be allowed to compete for the starting quarterback job. Privately the Packers are reportedly frantic to trade Favre and end the entire PR fiasco. Today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says the Packers even called their division rivals the Minnesota Vikings to let them know Favre is available. Yikes!
