Would the Los Angeles Lakers really think about bringing back one of the most despised players in the history of the club? Apparently so.
According to the website www.hoopshype.com the Lakers are “toying with the thought” of signing former center Kwame Brown. He was one of the few players ever booed by the notoriously laid back Los Angeles sports fans. Brown was detested by Laker fans (and Washington fans before that) for his uninspired and horrible play. After being the first player selected in the 2001 NBA draft (by then Wizards GM Michael Jordan), Brown has had a thoroughly forgettable NBA career. He has scored in double figures only once in seven seasons averaging just 7.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for his career. Last year, with Memphis, Brown averaged just 3.5 points per game.
Lakers coach Phil Jackson once famously called Brown a “pussy” in an interview with the Orange County Register. The highlight of Brown’s Lakers career was probably an incident involving a birthday cake.
The Lakers find themselves short on front court players as Andrew Bynum continues to come back from MCL surgery and with the free agent departure of Ronny Turiaf. Besides, it’s not like anyone else wants Kwame Brown.
