MICHAEL INOA SIGNING WITH THE A’S LAST MONTH: GUY ON THE FAR LEFT (NEXT TO BILLY BEANE) IS A BOOKIE
Here’s another Latin American headache for Major League Baseball. Sports llustrated is reporting that the agent who represented pitcher Michael Inoa of the Dominican Republic in his recent record setting contract negotiations with the Oakland A’s just happens to be the country’s biggest bookie.
According to SI, Edgar Mercedes has made a fortune taking bets. He is the owner of Out 27, the biggest sports book and bar in the Dominican Republic. Mercedes also owns 45 other bookmaking operations on the island. Mercedes is a top “Buscones” or street agent who represents several baseball players (including Inoa.)

The Maloofs are bookies and they sign all the players on the Sacramento Kings.

I honestly don’t see what is the news here and where is the controversy. This is simple economics if you get to know baseball in the Dominican inside out. I am not saying that what they (buscones) are doing is morally right, but definitely this is not new and I don’t see and end to it.
Yeah, I might be biased, i am from the Dominican, but i know how these things work there.

The maloofs had to close the sports book in their casino before they were able to buy the team.
