LOS ANGELES OUTLAWS PLASTIC BAGS

The Los Angeles city council voted Tuesday to outlaw plastic shopping bags. Starting on July 1, 2010 shoppers will either have to bring their own bags or pay 15 cents for each paper bag.

The city estimates more than 2 billion plastic bags are used in Los Angeles each year and only 5 percent of them are recycled.
