TRANSPORTATION BILL SETS ASIDE $45 MILLION FOR LAS VEGAS TO DISNEYLAND BULLET TRAIN

MAGLEV TRAINS ALREADY RUN IN EUROPE AND ASIA

President Bush today signed a new transportation bill into law. Part of that bill authorizes $45 million for a futuristic train that is scheduled to run from Las Vegas to Disneyland.

The train is meant to ease traffic on increasingly clogged Interstate 15 (the main route for the millions of Southern Californians who make the 250-plus-mile drive to Las Vegas each year.) Right now there is no passenger train service of any kind between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Amtrak canceled service to Las Vegas in 1997 because of low ridership.

The train would utilize a technology called MagLev where the vehicle “floats” above the track using electromagnets. Critics have called the plan “futuristic pie in the sky” but MagLev trains already run in England, Germany, Japan and China.

The speed of these trains reach almost 400 MPH. A trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on such a train could take under and hour.

45 million might pay for a feasibility study- but the line itself would run into the tens of billions for sure.

Yes! I am all for the Bullet Train from Anaheim, Ca to Primm to Las Vegas. This kind of transportation is very much needed. I do not drive myself so getting to Vegas is very difficult for me to do and there is no one I could really trust to drive. There is the Greyhound bus, but even the return trip in the middle of the night is very risky.
I have already traveled from Lancaster to Union Station to Anaheim many times by Metrolink train and also have used Amtrak. But this proposed Bullet train would be so conveinent for me and a time-saver.
People here in California love to go to Las Vegas and even if its just a quick idea for the weekend, the bullet train to Primm and Las Vegas would be perfect.
One article I read said the extension from Primm to Anaheim could be done by 2015.
Let’s have weekly meetings, instead of monthly, and get this route built.

Ian is right. Harry Reid just dropped $8 billion into the so-called stimulus bill to build a bullet train from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

  4. WTF Says:

Why the hell do we need to go these places, Vegas(more gambling) or Disneyland(franchise so your kids buy more mickeymouse crap).
Can we just says it go from Seattle to LA. I swear the Casino and Disneyland is getting buying to this shit.

  5. WTF Says:

it’s a great idea having these trains, US is behind in the public transportation. Europe and Asia is way ahead in pub transportation. I feel USA living in the stone age while the rest of Europe and Asia is iron age.
I really don’t mind getting sushi and getting drunk in LA and then hop the train back to SF.

  6. Carole Scarbrough Says:

How dp I find out when construction starts for the Las Vegas-Disneyland bullet train and employment oportunities?
