CHER AND BETTE MIDLER ON PACE TO BRING VEGAS CASINO HALF A BILLION DOLLARS

There were fears that Celine Dion would be “irreplaceable” as a Las Vegas headliner.

Yeah, not so much.

Variety has a story today on just how much money Dion’s replacement duo of Cher and Bette Midler are bringing in for Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Let’s just say it’s a LOT.

So far Cher and Midler have sold every ticket to every performance at Caesar’s. Keep in mind this is corporate Las Vegas. Exactly 0 of those tickets were comps.

Acccording to Variety:

Midler opened at the Colosseum in February and Cher on May 6. Midler’s initial run was 19 dates; Cher has played 16 concerts in the 4,296-seat venue. The two shows have already grossed about $24 million in ticket sales.

CHER AT CAESAR’S PALACE

Cher’s opening Vegas run concluded last night. She resumes in August and will total 50 shows for Caesar’s Palace this year. Midler is scheduled for 68 concerts. According to Variety each show brings in about $700,000.

That means Midler will bring in $47 million this year and Cher (because of fewer shows) $35 million. And that total doesn’t even include the third Caesar’s perfomer, Elton John, who runs his “Red Piano” show on nights when Cher or Midler are not performing.

In the biggest year for Celine Dion she grossed $81.3 million. This year alone Cher and Midler will combine for $82 million. In fewer dates.

Cher is booked for 200 shows over three years while Midler will do 200 by February 2010.
