Thanks to high fuel costs you’ll be paying more for your ticket when you fly. But hey, at least the flights are going to last longer.

Yahoo has a story today that major airlines are slowing down their planes speed in order to save money on fuel.

As usual, Southwest was ahead of the curve. They started the practice last month. Their plan was to add 3-4 minutes to each flight. That is expected to save the airline $ 42 million this year.

The people running the other airlines are just greedy. And stupid. A Northwest airlines flight from Minneapolis to Paris now takes 8 hours and 58 minutes. It saves the company $ 535 in fuel costs. That’s less than $ 2 per passenger.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say most people would rather pay an extra $1.40 for their ticket to Paris than spend NINE hours in a plane.

Of course airlines are always looking for other ways to save money.
