Neal Best of Newsday is one of the best sports media writers in the country. Besides his regular column, Best is now writing a blog for Newsday entitled “Watchdog.”

Best reports that the early numbers are in for the NCAA College Basketball Tournament.

On the first day of the tournament (Thursday) 1,751,956 different people logged onto the CBS internet feed of the games on March Madness On Demand. That’s an increase of % 122 over last year. This year’s internet broadcast is free. It is one click requires no registration. There are also no regional blackouts of games.

One other AWESOME addition to the CBS internet broadcasts is something called the “Boss Button.” When clicked, a dummy spread sheet appears onscreen to fake out supervisors. The “Boss Button” was clicked 1,225,089 times Thursday.
