LEONA HELMSLEY AND HER MILLIONAIRE DOG TROUBLE

Screw the Pooch.

That was the headline in today’s New York Post as a Manhattan judge reduced the trust fund of the late Queen of Mean’s dog, Trouble, from $12 million to $2 million. Leona Helmsley was a Manhattan real estate mogul and notorious charcacter who died last year at the age of 87.

The judge basically decided that Helmsley wasn’t mentally competent when she signed her final will. The judge divided the $10 million taken away from the dog between Helmsley’s two disinherited grandchildren.

The dog will still live out the rest of her years in luxury with $2 million left in his trust. The Post lists  Trouble’s expenses at just over $190,000 a year:

 

“…which includes a $60,000 guardian fee, $100,000 for ’round-the-clock security, $8,000 for grooming, $3,000 for miscellaneous expenses, $1,200 for food and anywhere from $2,500 to $18,000 for medical care.”

A group of Danish students has been kicked off Facebook for cooking and eating a cat. They say eating the cat was a symbolic act and a form of protesting the way pigs and cattle are raised for meat. Nonetheless, their eating the cat was slammed by animal rights groups.

The students, from the Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus, reportedly posted 30 pictures of themselves cooking and eating the animal. The students say the cat was wild and was killed humanely. They also say that it was prepared by a professional chef.

A 17-year-old Florida youth and his school teacher mother have been barred by a judge from owning any pets. The ruling came after a tape emerged of the boy having sex with his pet German Shepherd.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel is not identifying the boy because he was a juvenile at the time of the activity.

His mother, whose residence is where the sexual activity occurred, teaches at a public school.

According to the Associated Press, six lions in South Africa have eaten a tasty 49-year-old zookeeper who was trying to bring them water.

Reports say the only things left of the man were his intestines and a couple of fingers.

WAITER, THERE’S A GOLDFISH IN MY URINAL

A restaurant in Changchung city, China has received global attention because of its urinal. The restaurant keeps LIVE carp in a ten-foot long trough in the mens room.

Animal rights groups are outraged over the fish being urinated on by customers. The owner of the restaurant says the water in the urinals is running and changed on a regular basis.

The owner adds that the fish were “intended as an attraction for diners” and were “not used in dishes.”

Said one article about the fish-urinal,

 

Guests seemed surprised to find fish swimming in the trough which has sign saying “Please urinate here” above it.

“If they didn’t have the sign here I would have thought it was a new fish tank,” said one diner, Mr Wang.

AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT BEGINS “KANGAROO CULL.” WILL SHOOT 400 ANIMALS

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Australian government began a controversial “kangaroo cull” Monday as soldiers shot and killed at least 20 animals. There are plans to shoot some 400 kangaroos.

An RSPCA official said,

“Our inspectors were on site this morning to observe the final set-up and then they remained on site to observe some of the initial culling of kangaroos.”

The government began the controlled shoot of the kangaroos just outside of the nation’s capitol of Canberra in an effort to “protect the site from overgrazing and to protect other species.”

Animal rights groups wanted to relocate the excess kangaroos. No such luck. Moving the animals would cost an estimated $3.5 million. Shooting them cost just $750,000.

The animals are shot with tranquillizer darts and then given a lethal drug. One observer of the mass kangaroo killings said,

“It’s pretty horrific because you can see them fighting to stay conscious.”

NY POST HEADLINE OF THE DAY: “COONSKIN CAPPED”

The New York Post has the story today about the unfortunate raccoon pictured above.

Animal control officers were called to remove the animal from an Upper East Side neighborhood. They shot the raccoon with tranquilizer darts.

Sadly, the animal DIED. Thus the headline, “Coonskin Capped.”
