MATT HUGHES

Last night’s card in UFC 85 may have marked the end of future Hall of Famer Matt Hughes’ career. He suffered an early first round loss to Tiago Alves. Hughes is probably the greatest welterweight in UFC history, but last night’sĀ setback follows a blowout loss to Georges St. Pierre in UFC 79 last year.

Many pundits (including Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports) have called for Hughes to retire following the match. Hughes, who was an MMA star before the age of big-money contracts, has two more fights remaining on his current UFC deal. He has also said he wants to someday fight on the same card as his twin brother (who is currently in negotiation for a UFC deal.)

Other winners on the London card included Mike Swick and British fighter Michael Bisping.
