DUMBEST BASEBALL CONTROVERSY IN THE LAST 30 YEARS

By mikeresponts

The manager for baseball’s Washington National has found the reason for his team’s lack of success. It’s the hair of injured first baseman Dmitri Young. Nationals manager Manny Acta, concerned that injured infielder Dmitri Young’s big, curly Afro was becoming too much of a distraction, told the injured first baseman after Thursday night’s loss to the Mets to have his hair cut before he showed up for Friday night’s game.

Young complied.

The Nationals list of problems is long (longer than Young’s hair.) Washington is not only in last place in the NL East, but has the worst record in baseball. The Nationals have bad pitching (a team ERA of 4.59) and even worse hitting (.223 batting average-the worst in baseball.)

The Nationals are bad because they suffer from an ownership group that doesn’t care about winning. Despite increased revenues and the promise of a new ballpark, the Nationals did NOTHING to improve their club this offseason. The team’s president, Stan Kasten, is already in semi-retirement. While he was with the Atlanta Braves, Kasten was never willing to improve his team and make the one final move to push his club over the top. The Braves won 14 straight division titles but only one World Series under Kasten (who always gave the impression that he was happy with that.)

The rest of the organization is bush league. Particularly Acta. The only reason Acta is the Nationals manager is he is willing to work cheap. He is probably the least qualified manager in baseball. But, at least he’s the cheapest.

And that’s all the Nationals care about.

DMITRI YOUNG BEFORE HIS FRIDAY HAIRCUT

This is literally the DUMBEST baseball controversy since Pittsburgh Pirates manager, Danny Murtaugh, made pitcher Dock Ellis stop wearing his pink hair curlers while warming up in the bullpen.

For those of you too young to remember the 70’s, that’s the same Dock Ellis who once no-hit the Cincinnati Reds while under the influence of LSD-a game so famous they wrote about it in High Times magazine.

HEY, IT WAS THE 70′S, RIGHT?

Murtaugh had an excuse for being old-fashioned. After all, he was born in FREAKIN’ 1917!

Manny Acta has no such excuse.
